Banja Luca Prayer Arch

This Banja Luca prayer arch has a wool plain weave with wool applique and silk thread embroidery in couching stitch.

The design is typical of prayer arches of its time and it shows a central urn with red and white flowers springing from it.  The urn sits under an arch consisting of meandering vines in white with blue accents.   The border consists of large meandering vines with pink, red, and purple flowers throughout.  This pieces’ appliqued is similar to our Recht embroidery.
