Romanian Embroidered Vest
Lambskin outerwear, with untreated wool facing the inside to provide warmth, was quite popular with the peasant population of the Balkan countries. The decoration varies, with Hungary and Romania arguably having the most striking designs and delicate handwork.
This young girl’s vest is from Northern Romania. It features exquisite polychrome floral embroidery accented with leather appliqué in brown and green, metal rivets and pompoms — side opening with leather button and loops.
