Balkan Shaggy Throw
This large throw is a bit of a mystery as to its origin.
Long, two-ply, coiled cotton fringes dyed in saturated burgundy and sewn in rows onto a cotton foundation. Reminiscent of Berber capes in look but not construction or material (the Berber capes are woolen).Tulu rugs look similar as well, but those are also woolen. Northern Bulgaria and south Rumania allegedly produce similar throws but we could not verify it or find anything quite like it.
Very luxurious and decorative piece.
Circa: 20th Century
Condition: Few repaired holes in the white foundation, very good
