Tetouan Mirror Cover

This mirror cover (tenifa) particular to Tetouan is a long embroidered panel that is draped over mirrors during weddings and celebrations to ward off the evil eye. These pieces are executed from freehand drawings made directly on fabric. They employ the double running stitch and the double darning stitch in checkered or diagonal patterns. The polychromatic colors are warm, vibrant, and robust in tone on silk satin. Motifs of summer florals, serrated flowers, leaves, and geometric shapes on a Moroccan blue ground.
