Silk Syrian Purse
A tapestry woven bag, made in Aleppo and most likely for export to the European trade. The tapestry is plain weft face weave having weft threads of different colors worked over portions of the warp to form a design. The warp threads are hidden and the weft yarn discontinuous. Each color weft is interlaced back and forth in its own area.
While both sides have very similar designs, they have some differences in the motifs and colors. The top is closed by a drawstring and one European made tassel hangs from the bottom.
