Syrian Tapestry Bag
Tapestry bag with two identical sides of silver thread weft facing with a tugra done in red silk. Tugra is a calligraphic monogram, seal or signature of the Ottoman sultans but it was also widely used on coins and stamps and other commercial items.The tapestry is plain weave having weft threads of different colors wrapped around the warp threads to form areas of different colors. The warp threads are hidden and the weft yarn discontinuous. It is a labor intensive process unique to the weavers of Aleppo and Damascus.
