Salamanca Applique Panel
Salamanca in northwest Spain was contested by Christians and Muslims for centuries. As such, the local arts bear influence of both. The iconography on this cover is Christian with the lions and fish but the silk applique work is more Muslim North African. Beside the applique work there are various other techniques such as lace, embroidery, sequins and pulled work.
