Russian Printed Cotton For The Central Asian Market

This is a compelling Russian cotton print with Modernist influence.  Russian prints were used as linings for Central Asian garments until  the late 19th century when they were replaced by local production.

This textile is an outstanding example of the ingenuity and influence from art movements in Europe.  The Russian garment mills favored red, bold, colorful florals and bright graphic design targeting the Central Asian’s love of color and ingenious patterning.
