Safavid-Style Persian Velvet Fragment

This Safavid-style PersianĀ velvet fragment was made in theĀ 19th century or earlier. It features a repeating solider or sultan with a floral and urn motif in red, blue, and black short repeat and emulates Safavid velvet designs. Velvet would have been a symbol of luxury, and was likely used as a floor spread or furnishing fragment.
