Padukas (sandals)

Pudukas are sandals that are comprised of wooden elevated platforms with a post placed between the big and second toe, and a knob at the post’s end to secure the foot in place. Padukas come in a variety of shapes: most notably fish, hourglass and like feet. They are often intricately carved from ivory, precious woods, or inlaid with ivory or brass wire. Padukas are often part of a either the bride’s trousseau, ritual objects of veneration, or a holy offering from the faithful.

This pair of wooden Padukas are curved and together form an hourglass shape. They are decorated with inlaid brass wire in the design of a double ogee and a border outlined with dots.
