Ottoman Embroidery with Grape Motif

Linen cover with borders decorated with vines carrying grapes.
The embroidery is done on loose plain weave with polychrome silk and metallic thread. The silk handiwork is done in stem stitch worked to look like couching, while the fine silver wire is wrapped around silk cord and couched on top of thicker cords. All the embroidery is double side and very fine. Work of this quality was most likely produced by a commercial workshop in either Istambul or Smirna.
