New Guinea Conus Shell Necklace
	
		This large tribal shell neckless, from the Aitape-Lumi District, Papua New Guinea, was worn to display one’s wealth, power and rank.  Shell money was considered a prized possession, not only as a commodity exchange, but also as a visual display of ornamentation and personal wealth.
