Last Supper Animal Painting

Ethiopian Christian art is stylistically inspired by late Byzantine Christian art – very vivid and cartoonish. This piece depicts the Last Supper, but with animals replacing Jesus and his disciples. Various animals surround the lion Jesus on the table with an angelic figure above him.  In the center of the table, two blue figures appear to be signing a manuscript. A dead, stabbed snake rests on the bottom of the image, likely representing the devil.
