Ivory Ground Kinran Panel

Kinran is a Far Eastern brocading technique originally developed in China but imported and perfected by the Japanese. Instead of using metallic threads the metal is applied to paper that is then cut into strips and woven as a continuous supplementary weft. The design of this complete panel features meandering vines of stylized flowers, each bouquet comprised of three leaves and three flowers. The slight tarnishing gives this textile a very nuanced texture.
