Floral Field Kalimkari

Kalimkari is a block printing method made in Iran but perfected in India where it was produced on the Coromandel Coast and in Gujarat for export to the Iranian market. The Iranian kalimkaris usually have a thin red border and their quality is inferior to The Indian ones. This example has a red borders but the quality is superb: good registry, beautiful drawing and in its slightly fade condition, nice soft colors. The center floral field has a small eight point medalion. Multiple floral borders. Please note the nicely matched patch.
