Chinese Embroidered Red Skirt

This embroidered red skirt was made in China in the 19th century. It is made out of red silk and embroidered with peonies and butterflies in polychrome silk using satin stitch and accents of French knot. The skirt has black silk ribbon borders and an inner border of patterned white silk. The waistband is made of white cotton tabby.
