Embroidered Kaftan

The Kaftan was brought to Morocco by Persian and Ottoman peoples in the 16th century. It was and still is an urban garment.

This kaftan comes from the estate of Doris Duke, an heiress famous for her exotic taste.Its ground is a pale blue, edged with a yellow-gold silk trim. It is decorated with embroidered vertical  rows of vine-like florals in pink silk and gold metallic thread. It is lined with pink silk.
