This embroidered blouse was made in Mexico in the 20th century. The black and red embroidery stands out distinctly against the shirt’s white ground fabric. The embroidered design is a repeated rooster pattern surrounded by foliate imagery, above two registers of flowers. The textile artist used long stitches to fill in the rooster and foliage, which gives them a soft rippling texture that is bounded by the short, bright red stitches that outline the designs.
