Copal Necklace
Copal is often confused with amber due to the similar appearance. Amber is millions of years old, while copal can be anywhere from tens of thousands of years to hundreds of years old, and copal is heavier. It can also become amber if given millions of years. Copal is a natural resin that exists in a semi-fossilized state. It is mostly found on the island of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania. True copal is mined from deposits during the rainy season when the ground is moist.
This copal was polished to form beads and strung together on this necklace using cotton yarn.
