Brocade with Squirrels and Grape Vines

This brocade made for the European market is decorated with squirrels and grape vines in a scatter design around circular  shapes containing geometric overlapping line patterns. The ground is a gray silk, with polychromatic linear patterns, and the main motifs are highlighted in gold.

Squirrels and grape vines combination  symbolize abundance in fortune and offsprings in Chinese iconography.
