Beetle Wing Panel Mounted on Net
The wing casings of the scarab beetle are a beautiful metallic blue-green color. Mughal clothing designers appreciated the visual interest that these natural “sequins” could provide. The yardage was made in India and sent to Europe to be embellished with the beetle wings . It had become fashionable in the 18th century for European women to wear gowns and shawls decorated with these natural sequins. The casings were often cut into floral motifs and applied to the hems, necks, and sleeves of garments. Pricing is per panel.
