Ajar

Veils such as this were produced in Tunisia in the village of Testour by families of Andalousian origin. They have central transparent rectangles which, when carefully draped allow women to see without exposing their faces to strangers, and display the intricacy of the decoration. The elaborately decorated end panels feature tree of life, Khamsa hands and prayer phrases, all styles in Moorish manner.Further vertical stripes are filled with tribal motifs. Narrow ends with silk tassels.
