Coral and Silver Necklace

This necklace is from northern Algeria, which is part of the Atlas mountain range.  The Kabyle people from this area represent the largest Berber speaking  population of Algeria.

This marvelous necklace is created with intricate linked silver chain work  and is adorned with natural fibula-like shapes of mediterranean coral, protective amulets and decorative coins.  The intricate colorful enameling in bright blue, yellow and green enamel in small compartments is very typical of the jewelry from this region.
