Aari Embroidery Fragment

Aari embroidery flourished in Gujarat, under Mughal patronage, and is characterized by motifs composed of series of fine chain stitches. The process involves the use of a hooked needle that is similar to, but finer than, that used in tambour work. This selvage-to-selvage fragment of fine cotton is adorned with a repeating pattern of flowers in various shades of blue, orange, green and metallic thread.
