Dragon Cuff Fragment

Five-clawed dragons were reserved for use by the imperial family in 19th century China. This fragment is a part of a cuff that once decorated a sleeve of a robe worn by someone of high status. The dragon is reaching for the pearl of wisdom, surrounded by clouds and a bat, with water below it.

The decorating technique is called Ko-su which is a complicated, labor intensive form of tapestry weave.
