Monks Robe with Cranes

Kesa developed out of the need of Buddhist monks to cover themselves utilizing scraps of material donated to their temple. Patterns developed using small squares of fabric to create a design that is graphically and texturally new .The New ushered new creations which can be quite luxurious, unlike anything intended. This kesa features a highly detailed and somewhat abstracted florals, hexagonals and cranes in flight all woven in four shades of brown silk. Backed with patterned light purple silk, shoulder straps attached.
